'Real-time Survey of the Western Pacific Ocean with Argo', a special project of basic scientific research for 2012  was officially approved to be sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST). The project will be implemented from May 2012 to May 2017 and the ministry will provide funding for 35 Argo floats, which will lead to an important progress for the implementation of China Argo Ocean Observing Network.

The Program ('Argo大洋观测与资料同化及其对我国短期气候预测的改进', completed by Prof. ZHANG Renhe and Prof. XU Jianping and their team), recomended as the candidate of the National Award for Science and Technology Progress, is a milestone in the oceanic and atmospheric science in China.
