—To build up a protective platform for migratory fishes and improve cooperation in coastal ecological early warning
Recently, the 2022 Annual Meeting of the Science and Technology Innovation Association of Migratory Species was held in Nantong, Jiangsu Province. The president of the academic committee of the association, academician and physical oceanographer Su Jilan from the Chinese Academy of Sciences attended the conference.

In the conference, experts and scholars in fields of marine aquaculture, freshwater fisheries, physical oceanography, ocean ecology, microorganisms and ocean chemistry conducted heated discussions online and offline on topics such as "From the Protection of Marine Migratory Creatures to the Construction of a Community with a Shared Future for the Sea", "Integrated Monitoring of the Yangtze River Estuary and Adjacent Seas for the Typical Migratory Species Coilia Nasus", "The Long-time Dynamic Characteristics of the Hypoxic Zone Adjacent to the Yangtze River Estuary in Summer", "The Variation Trend and Response of Ecological System of the Yangtze River Estuary", and "The Aquatic Environment and Biodiversity in the Yangtze River Section of Nantong".
Academician Su Jilan delivered the keynote speech
Scientists including Su Jilan, Chen Jianfang, Zhou Feng and Zeng Jiangning from SIO the participated in the conference. In particular, Academician Su Jilan gave an inspiring speech on the topic of "Protecting River-Sea Migratory Species from the Perspective of Improving China's Offshore Ecological Environment". He emphasized that the rehabilitation of fishery resources is of vital importance to marine ecological environment governance, and highlighted the significance of the scientific understanding and protection of intertidal zone in restoring fishery resources. Dr. Zhou Feng made an oral report on "The Long-time Dynamic Characteristics of the Hypoxic Zone Adjacent to the Yangtze River Estuary in Summer", pointing out that the deoxygenation rate of the bottom water in summer in parts of the Yangtze River Estuary was -0.07 mg/L/yr, and the de-oxidation trend was still accelerating.

The Introduction of Science and Technology Innovation Association of Migratory Species
In view of the severe impact of high-intensity fishing activities on fishery resources and the evolution of offshore ecosystem caused by eutrophication in river basins, the Science and Technology Innovation Association of Migratory Species was established in Nantong in 2021.
In the past year, the association has carried out a number of studies on extracting and large-scale breeding of germplasm resources of migratory species in rivers and seas, environment and biodiversity monitoring of river environment, the structure of food networks in the adjacent waters of the Yangtze River Estuary, and the marine ecological environment of the Yangtze River Estuary, which actively promoted regional biological and ecological protection. It is reported that Nantong Municipal Science and Technology Committee has added the "Yangtze River Protection Special Project" to the city's general plan for science and technology to support institutions and enterprises to jointly carry out scientific research in the fields of migratory species protection and the governance of the southern section of Nantong in the Yangtze River.
