The SOED has owned instruments and equipment worth about 130 million yuan, which are centrally managed, maintained and shared to other institutions by full-time technicians. At present, the lab managed about 190 sets of various types of acoustic Doppler dual current profilers, and 2 sets of large ones with water sample functions, 473 sets of Conductive-Temperature-Depth devices, 105 sets of shallow and deep acoustic releasers, 11 sets of deep sea subsurface moorings, 10 sets of instruments for remote sensing field observation, 42 sets of auxiliary navigation and communication equipment, 8 sets of sediment observation equipment, and 5 sets of independent observation platforms, and these devices and instruments ensure the lab to carry out various large-scale marine surveys and long-term observation of anchor systems in different sea areas at the same time. In addition to these conventional instruments and equipment, the lab has also imported advanced equipment to carry out innovative work, including underwater gliders, wave gliders, turbulence measuring instruments, Argo buoys, (S, C, L, Ku) four-band waveguide measurement systems, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, etc. On top of that, the lab has also successfully developed a buoy observation system for deep-sea internal waves, a novice acoustic tomography and anti-fishing vessel trawl based on research necessities. Also, the technicians have improved the power supply for various instruments, in order to improve the lab’s capacity to obtain long-term observation data in sea areas where typhoons and other extreme weathers frequently occur, and where shipping, fishery and other human activities are common.
