On July 15, State Key Laboratory of Satellite Ocean Environment Dynamics (SOED) successfully hosted the 8^th Online National Summer Camp for Outstanding Undergraduates. 22 senior undergraduates majoring in marine science registered with this online summer camp. They come from 11 universities, including Shandong University, Ocean University of China, Shanghai Ocean University, Tianjin University of Science & Technology, and Nanjing University of Information, Science & Technology.

On the morning, the opening ceremony of the summer camp was hosted via Tencent Meeting. Researcher Lian Tao, the vice director of SOED, was the host of the online activity. He gave a brief introduction of SOED, specifically illustrating the laboratory’s achievement in educating post-graduates, outreach and communications. Next, scientists from SOED introduced the fundamental knowledge and key achievements of their research groups in fields of ocean color remote sensing, microwave remote sensing of the ocean, ocean dynamic processes and marine eco-environment, and ocean circulation and short-period climate change. Through the above sessions, students not only strengthened their understanding to ocean science, but they also further explored their research interests.

In the next session, participants of the summer camp came to the online seminar of “Walking into SOED: advices from tutors and students” and communicated with representatives of tutors and post-graduate students at SOED. Wang Han and Li Jizhe, post-graduates at SOED presented their study motivations and current researches respectively, and also showed their colorful life out of academic curriculum via vivid pictures and videos. During the warm communication session after the presentations, participants actively asked the representatives the questions they concerned about, including the admission process of post-graduates, field works and survey programs, as well as their future studies. The tutors and students representatives answered every question with patience, and offered advices and guides according to the questions.

In the afternoon, 17 members of the summer camp were divided into 2 groups according to their majors. They attended an interview to present their self-introductions, academic experience and study plans in the post-graduate period. The judges asked questions accordingly, and encouraged them to review on the professional knowledge, preparing for the Unified National Graduate Entrance Examination and making a reunion in Second Institute of Oceanography.
